In a world where people are working full-time, part-time, raising their families, or running their businesses but building their residual income on the side, HOW and WHEN to communicate seems to come up for me a lot.
Let’s face it, there is no perfect day, time or method of how to communicate that works for everyone.
Then, you throw in the multiple generations and their communication preferences and communicating can be quite complicated.
I think it important to ask a few key questions:
- what are you communicating
- where will your audience be that needs to hear it?
For example, if you are wanting to reach millennials, they are on text and Instagram. If you are wanting to reach Generation X, they are using email (as they are at work), text and phone calls. Baby Boomers are still using phone calls and emails mostly, though many can be found on Facebook these days to keep up with their families.
Now let’s look at what you are communicating.
If you have a tangible item you are sharing or can sample, would an in-person social or meeting be best? Or will an email blast suffice?
This is what I am doing.
- I have all my clients/customers/team in an email system. I communicate with them either weekly or monthly.
- I send items of value to them at least once a month in the form of a newsletter via email.
- I mail them one piece of mail at least once a year. This requires me keeping up to date with them so I have their correct address information.
- I text occasionally. I use Skype. I email when needed from my inbox and I try to use multiple social media accounts so I can reach the masses of people that are in my sphere.
I’d love to hear how you communicate and what is working and what you’d like to improve.
Did this blog help you? If so, it would mean a lot to me if you would share it with others!!! And, share your comments below!
